Congressional Act Benefit From Garment Industry

The US Congress introduced a copy.

bill

It sought to extend the third country fabric clause in the current African Growth and timing Act (AGOA) to 2015.

Third countries in the African Growth and Opportunity Act

Fabric terms

It was planned to end in September 2012.

If this bill is passed, the clothing sector of African countries that will benefit the African Growth and timing act will benefit greatly.

This bill is urgently required because major international buyers usually plan their procurement at least 6-12 months ahead of schedule.

The early adoption of this bill will exclude the prevailing African Growth and timing act, the garment industry of the beneficiary countries as an example of uncertainty.

Dark clouds

From the US perspective, the proposed bill is not very important, because clothing from African countries is only a small part of the total clothing imports in the United States.

However, this provision is important for garment exporters in countries such as Kenya and Lesotho.

Lifeline

Therefore, at the recent meeting on African Growth and Opportunity Act in Lusaka, the African apparel and Textile Industry Federation and other African Growth and timing act countries called for the extension of third country clauses.

The proposed law also seeks to incorporate the new independent southern Sultan into the eligible countries of the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
