Gorgeous Encounter: ELIZABETH MORLING

2011/8/16 14:04:00 46

It has been mentioned more than once that color is the most interesting element I think of fashion. The contrast between different colors and materials is the masterpiece of Central St Martins graduate Elizabeth Morling. With reference to Mexico's national costumes, we deal with strong and gentle contrast with interesting ways, contrasting colors and contrasts with creativity. Elizabeth's series is exaggerated but adorable, and I believe you will never be disappointed if you like colors like me.

 Gorgeous encounter: ELIZABETH MORLING

As a new member of the industry, what do you think of the fashion industry?

The fashion industry is very strict. There are many enthusiastic and talented people competing for the same job. But this is also a friendly community meeting. Many people who understand you are willing to help and support you.

How do you describe your style?

My style is informal. I like to explore different aspects and contrasts of fashion, such as long and short, monotonous and full of patterns, colors and darkness.

My work is also full of humor.

What qualifications do you think you need to be a successful designer?

A good designer can understand his guests' preferences and expectations. He has an open mind and is full of curiosity, but he is loyal to himself, and has the characteristics of creating popular and challenging clothes.

Who is your favorite designer? Does he inspire you when you design?

My favorite is the current Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere. His works are very inspiring. Cristobal Balenciaga's original work is very beautiful. But I love the new elements brought by Nicolas. The series he designs is so avant-garde that he pushes the use of cloth to the limit.

Can you share your series? Which one is the most iconic? Which one is your favorite?

My series is inspired by the national costumes of Mexico. I studied their craft and technology for making cloth and clothes, and then I added them into Islamic designs to make their work colorful.

And I like using different materials very much. You can find leather, wool, silk and rubber in the series.

The last thing to represent the series is the last woolen leather dress with leather applique pattern. It's very striking. But what I like most is the sky blue leather coat, which is made of leather mixed with sheepskin and knitting skills. I will wear it.

Now there are many new designers in the industry. Is there anyone who you especially appreciate?

Holly Fulton, I like her bright patterns and neat tailoring and lines. I also like Mary Katranzou!

As a graduate of Central St Martins, do you have any suggestions for other fashion students?

I suggest that they keep experimenting in the first few years of university life, and make good use of their time to find what they enjoy most when their grades do not affect their academic degrees. At the same time, they need to be organized. Of course, don't forget to enjoy it.

What is your next plan? Are you planning to set up your own brand?

I hope to find a designer's job in a studio in Paris, London or New York. I don't think it's time for me to create personal brand, but it will be a future plan. I need to absorb more experience and capital before starting this adventure.
