The US textile trade group expressed anger at the measures taken by the Chinese government to help its textile enterprises, and said that the US government needed to take a tough action to limit the surge in imports of Chinese textiles after the current quota restrictions imposed on China's textile products were abolished early next year.

The United States National Textile Group Association (NCTO) made the following comments after the Chinese government decided to raise the export tax rebate rate of Chinese textile and garment exporters from 14% to 17%.

The export rebate rate of the textile and garment products is about to be raised. Following the current (2008) year, China has taken the same measures to increase its export enterprises. Since July of this year, China has adjusted the export rebate rate of textiles and garments from 11% to two times to 14%, and if it is raised to 17% again, the overall increase will reach 55%.

NCTO said that the subsidy granted to Chinese textile and garment exporters in the past four months has increased from 19 billion to 29 billion yuan.

Now, NCTO Cass Johnson is looking forward to the US President elect Obama's new government taking tough measures to prevent the surge in imports of Chinese textiles.

The US trade group especially hopes that if the quota period of Chinese textile products is lifted in January 1, 2009, the US Congress can take the initiative to draft trade relief proposals to defend the large import of Chinese textile products.
