According to Internet Retailer, Wal-Mart The electronic business platform has started about 250 third party sellers since the beginning of May this year.

WAL-MART's e-commerce platform now has about 550 third party sellers. product Sold with WAL-MART's proprietary products on the platform. WAL-MART plans to add more businesses to the platform, and hopes to increase about 1000 new businesses before the holiday season. The newly added businesses will enhance the supply capability of WAL-MART's e-commerce platform. At present, the platform provides about 11 million products, while WAL-MART's plan is to add about 1 million new products to the platform every month.

WAL-MART is trying to develop the online platform market in order to compete with Amazon. In 2009, when the WAL-MART business platform was created, there were only 6 merchants. Since then, the number of new businesses on the platform has been rising steadily. The recent cooperation with Channel Advisor has also increased the number of businesses on the platform. Since April 2016, customers of Channel Advisor have channels to dock with WAL-MART's e-commerce platform, enabling businesses to integrate their products automatically onto WAL-MART's e-commerce platform.

However, WAL-MART's e-commerce platform has a long way to go to get close to Amazon's level. Amazon has nearly 200 million third party sellers, offering nearly 365 million products, far exceeding the number of products on WAL-MART platform. Generally speaking, it takes six weeks for WAL-MART to accept a third party seller, while Amazon and eBay only need one day.

WAL-MART also wants to compete with Amazon in distribution services. Recently, WAL-MART announced that it would launch a 30 day free trial delivery service -- Shipping Pass. This service is similar to Amazon's Prime membership system. Customers can enjoy unlimited two day service as long as they pay a subscription fee of $49 a year. It is worth noting that WAL-MART's third party sellers can not participate in Shipping Pass services, while Amazon's Prime services include third party sellers.

WAL-MART is fighting a protracted war with Amason to maintain its competitiveness. In the future, WAL-MART is likely to make frequent efforts in the field of electronic business platform, so as to keep pace with rival Amason.
